Our Trees of Life ~ a Metaphor
This week my niece is visiting from Switzerland, where I’m originally from. Her visit makes my Heart sing or maybe even yodel a wildly happy song.
It fills me with so much joy having her here for so so many reasons. I really appreciate the talks we have which fill me with so much hope for the future of our Planet.
My niece is at the beginning of her adulthood and she is gaining more and more autonomy of where her life will take her. Her generation will soon have a major effect on where we are growing together on our Planet.
This visit of my niece reminds me of the vision I had of the Tree of Life with every branch being a new generation. Expanding more and more into uncharted territories thanks to all the generations that were before. It needs a strong foundation and sturdy branches for a tree to grow bigger and wider.
The Trunk of this multigenerational Tree is planted in the womb of the Universe and is our common thread where we all came from. Every generation is branching out while rooted in our togetherness.
This metaphor can also apply to each one of us and can represent our individual life experience.
Being with my niece makes me contemplate my own individual Tree of Life and all the new branches that I will grow.
I also became aware that sometimes we need to prune our tree. We might have shooters which branched out in a direction that doesn’t feel whole. They shoot out too quickly and too far without taking the time to let the whole tree nurture them.
Pruning shooters contributes to the overall health of the tree. For me some of these shooters can represent relationships where I overextended myself without reciprocity.
Nothing wrong with branching and shooting out. Some of these experiences can help us realize more deeply who we really are. Reaching out to one side too far creates an imbalance, an awareness that we are loosing ourselves, which we can use as a reminder what we truly want to nurture and which direction we want to grow.
But staying too close to the center makes our tree too dense and rigid without the wind being able to pass through. We want a tree that can sway and dance during the storms in our life.
Our individual Trees of Life all look so very different. Our life experiences shape them. All these trees together create a diverse nature. And if our tree grows within a forest there are families of trees growing together and supporting each other.
Our individual Trees of Life are magical. What makes them magical is our connection to Mother Earth and to the Sun/Source/Divine/Higher Self.
Our trees are rooted and nurtured by Mother Earth and guided and energized by the Sun. With the support from below and above we can reshape them, replant them, regrow them, add branches, take off branches, add colors.
During the day I often connect with my Tree of Life and use the metaphor to create wholeness in my Life.
When an inner storm makes me feel ungrounded, I check in with my metaphorical roots. How is my connection with Mother Earth, are my roots deep and strong?
When I feel confused, overwhelmed, I check in with my inner tree trunk. How sturdy and stable is it?
When I feel weight down, I check in with my branches. Are my branches expanded and reaching up to the Light?
When I feel stuck, I check in which quality of wind I need to help me release the stuck energy. Sometimes it’s a gentle breeze, sometimes it needs a gale.
When I start a new project, I check in what new branch I want to grow.
And there are times when I feel that I need to replant my inner tree and move it to the top of a mountain or replant it among a family of trees.
The answers help me get clarity about my current situations and I make the necessary inner adjustments. I nurture my inner tree which nurtures me. I love using nature as my inspiration.
I would like to inspire you to become the wise wild gardener of your life and create your very special wild, ever changing expression of your own Tree of Life.
My invitation to you is: GO WILD!
Let your imagination take you beyond the expected and let Mother Earth and the higher Source of Light support you on this Journey.
Let’s nurture our inner Trees, replant them, grow new branches and expand into wholesome new directions where we will forever grow our autonomy together with the wise guidance of Mother Earth and the higher Light.
Prompts
So here are my prompts which are always only suggestions:
Let your imagination go wild.
You could close your eyes and imagine how your Tree of Life looks, feels. Maybe you can see it with your inner eyes, maybe you feel drawn to drawing, painting it.
You could pay attention where it’s growing, how deep its roots are, how stable the trunk is, how its branches feel.
Maybe you want to embody your tree and see how it feels and move and sway with it.
Maybe you rather observe it and be the wise wild gardener and replant it and grow new branches when you start a new project.
Maybe you want to remember it during the day and check in how deep its roots are feeling, how stable your trunk is, how expanded your branches are?
Please feel free to share in the comment section what you are discovering when you follow your Heart and enter your inner Wildness.
