Cultivating our Roots and connecting with Mother Earth
I’m continuing the exploration of our individual Tree of Life, which I wrote about in last week’s Newsletter, and focus today on the Roots of our Tree.
Since I started to very consciously focus on the Roots of my inner Tree, I’m feeling more present in my body, in the moment and it generally improved my well being.
Cultivating our Roots can be such an empowering tool during uncertain times and times of change.
Instead of being thrown around by the negative News, the resulting stress, worries, fears, we can use our metaphorical Roots to ground and stabilize ourselves.
Grounding myself with Roots means to me, connecting with the Earth, feeling her support underneath me, her stable presence.
I’m using my wild imagination when I connect with the Roots of my inner Tree.
It helps me to imagine that I have metaphorical Roots connecting me to Mother Earth. I visualize them growing out of the bottom of my feet and they look different depending on the situation I find myself in.
We can connect with Mother Earth, with Nature wherever we are. We can feel her stable presence in the city, several floors above the ground, in a grocery store, during a business meeting.
And we don’t just grow Roots metaphorically in the soil. We can also imagine our Roots as an Anchor in water if that feels more beneficial to you. So feel free to replace Roots with an Anchor if that appeals to you more.
When we ground ourselves, when we connect to the Earth, we feel more stable, more nurtured, more present. With our metaphorical Roots connected to Mother Earth we can experience that we are never alone and have solid support underneath us.
I generally check in with the Roots of my inner Tree daily which feels so beneficial for my inner growth, for staying in the present moment and for feeling nurtured.
So here are a few examples how I regularly ground myself with Roots growing deep into Mother Earth. This helps me to feel stable and strong and nurtured during my daily life.
When I get up in the morning, I connect with my Roots. I stand on the ground and visualize my Roots reaching far down into the Earth. Sometimes it takes a while to feel my Roots reaching all the way down into the core of the Earth.
If you prefer water, you would use your inner Anchor and feel it descend all the way down to the bottom of the lake or ocean.
When I drive in the car, I ground myself. This makes me feel present and a safe driver.
When I feel worried, stressed, impatient, I ground myself. This helps me return to the present moment and feel centered again.
Every time I start a new creative project, I ground it with Roots. I keep visualizing all my creative projects with Roots growing down into very fertile ground where they get nurtured and safely held so they have the freedom to grow.
And being a highly empathic and sensitive person, I have learned that grounding myself, growing deep Roots into Mother Earth, helps me tremendously to stay in my space without overextending, exhausting myself.
The energy flows both ways through our Roots. We receive the nurturing, stabilizing energy of Mother Earth and we can also release our stress and worries down through our Roots.
Here is a 5 Minute Grounding Audio Practice that I recorded for you. I’m guiding you through the upward and downward energy flow in your Roots. It can be a valuable tool which allows you to release stress and stay grounded.
Prompts
You could take your time and connect with your Roots and explore them.
Let your wild imagination guide you.
If you find it difficult to imagine your metaphorical Roots, you could go outside and sit in nature and observe how that makes you feel and then internalize this experience and bring it with you wherever you are.
While you are in a quiet space at home you could practice tuning in and intuitively feeling where and how you feel most grounded, present in your body.
Maybe by imagining yourself on top of a mountain, next to or on water, in a forest etc. and then imagine your Roots reaching deep into Mother Earth.
And then you could add checking in with your Roots into your daily life and notice what changes.
Please feel free to share in the comment section what you are discovering when you follow your Heart and enter your inner Wildness.
To protect the integrity of my publication please don’t promote any outside projects in the comment section.
Next week I will write about how to stay grounded during times of change. I will share more deeply about the Roots that connect us to our culture, beliefs, jobs, inner identities etc.
“May the Wildness within your Heart inspire you to become more of YOU.”
Until next time!
